Tehran: Iran has denied sending any delegation to Islamabad, contradicting multiple reports that suggested fresh talks with the United States were imminent.
The clarification came through an on-screen alert by Iranian state television, which stated that no delegation from Tehran had travelled to Pakistan so far.

The denial has added to the uncertainty surrounding possible diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States. In recent days, speculation had intensified that a new round of talks could take place in Islamabad, with Pakistani officials reportedly on standby to host the discussions.
However, Iranian authorities have not confirmed any such move. The state broadcaster’s statement directly rejected claims that a delegation was “on the way” or that any meeting schedule had been finalised. It also stated that reports suggesting Iranian officials had already departed for Pakistan were not accurate.
The conflicting signals appear to reflect internal debate within Iran’s leadership over how to respond to recent developments. Tensions have risen following the seizure of an Iranian container ship by the US Navy, an incident that has further strained relations between the two countries.
While Iran has denied sending a delegation, the United States is expected to move forward with preparations. Reports indicate that US Vice President JD Vance may lead the American side if talks are held. However, Iran has not indicated who would represent its side, if at all.
Earlier reports from international media outlets had suggested that Tehran was preparing to restart diplomatic engagement with Washington through talks in Pakistan. Some Pakistani sources had also indicated that arrangements were being made for the visit. The latest denial from Iran has deepened contradictions between these reports and official statements.
Iranian officials have maintained a cautious stance on negotiations. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei had previously said there was no clear plan for a second round of talks in Islamabad. President Masoud Pezeshkian has also emphasised Iran’s historical distrust of the United States, signalling hesitation about entering new negotiations.
The situation highlights the fragile and uncertain nature of US-Iran relations. With no confirmed talks and mixed signals from Tehran, the possibility of diplomatic engagement remains unclear as tensions continue to shape the regional landscape.
