Washington: US President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of previous diplomatic efforts with Tehran on Monday, vowing that any new accord reached by his administration would be "far better" than the 2015 nuclear deal and would guarantee global security.

The president’s remarks coincided with the departure of a high-level American negotiating team for Pakistan. Led by Vice President JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the delegation aims to initiate a fresh round of talks with Iranian leadership following a 21-hour marathon session earlier this month that yielded no agreement.

In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump disparaged the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), brokered under the Obama-Biden administration, as "one of the Worst Deals ever made having to do with the Security of our Country." He described the original pact as a "guaranteed Road to a Nuclear Weapon," asserting that such an outcome would be impossible under his current framework.

Critique of Past Policy

Trump claimed that the previous administration delivered $1.7 billion in "GREEN" cash to Iran via a Boeing 757, alleging that former leaders "emptied out all of the Cash from Banks in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland." He argued that had he not terminated the JCPOA, nuclear weapons would have already been utilised against Israel and U.S. military installations throughout the Middle East.

"The Fake News, like Lightweight Washington Post 'Journalist' David Ignatius, loves to talk about the JCPOA, knowing that it was DANGEROUS, and a Complete Embarrassment to our Country," Trump wrote. He promised that a "TRUMP" deal would ensure safety for "Europe, America, and everywhere else," creating a result the world would be "proud of."

Domestic Political Tensions

The president also escalated his rhetoric against Democratic lawmakers and media coverage, accusing them of attempting to undermine the United States' "strong position" in the current standoff. He rejected claims that he is under pressure to finalise an agreement quickly, despite a regional ceasefire being set to expire this Wednesday.

Addressing criticisms regarding his military timelines, Trump noted that while historic conflicts like the Vietnam War lasted nearly 20 years, his military operation against Iran was "far faster" than any six-week promise attributed to him. "I'm not going to let them rush the United States into making a Deal that is not as good as it could have been," he stated, adding that he is under "no pressure whatsoever."

Military Strategy and "Regime Change"

Trump compared the ongoing operations to his administration’s previous actions in Venezuela, describing the current situation as a "bigger, more complex operation" that is being "perfectly executed." He labelled his Democratic opponents "TRAITORS ALL" for questioning the military’s accomplishments during the conflict.

"In my First Term, I built the Greatest Military our Country has ever seen," Trump wrote. "In my Second Term, I am properly and judiciously using our Military to solve problems left to us by others of far less understanding or competence."

The upcoming negotiations in Islamabad are viewed as a critical final diplomatic opportunity. While Washington maintains that a reasonable offer is on the table, Iranian officials have signalled an unwillingness to negotiate while the U.S. naval blockade remains in effect. Failure to reach a consensus by Wednesday’s deadline could result in a shift toward full-scale infrastructure warfare.
