As anticipation builds for the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha, the rhythmic sound of handlooms in Routpada village marks the beginning of one of India’s most revered religious traditions. Around 25 weaving families in Khurda district are entrusted with crafting the sacred ceremonial attire for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.

This heritage craft has been passed down through generations, preserving age-old temple customs and spiritual devotion. The garments are woven using Khandua Pata, Odisha’s revered silk textile known for its intricate artistry and cultural significance.
