As preparations begin for Ganesh Chaturthi 2026, idol makers across Mumbai are busy crafting Lord Ganesh idols, with a growing focus on eco-friendly Ganesh idols, clay idols, sustainable celebrations and support for local artisans.

During the monthly Mann Ki Baat radio address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to choose Ganesh idols made from Indian soil and encouraged artisans to prioritise clay instead of plaster of paris.

Beyond environmental benefits, local craftsmen believe the message will strengthen traditional idol-making practices and support employment opportunities by encouraging people to buy locally made products.
