Indore Man gifts 25,000 tree saplings instead of flowers for birthdays and anniversaries since 1987

As part of a green initiative, nature lover Rajesh Makwane from Indore has transformed the way people celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Instead of gifting flowers that fade within days, Makwane presents tree saplings that continue growing for generations. Since 1987, he has gifted nearly 25,000 saplings, encouraging people to create meaningful celebrations while contributing to environmental conservation.

Makwane says the idea came when he realised bouquets have a short lifespan, while a tree provides clean air, shade, and lasting memories. He believes recipients can proudly watch their trees grow over the years and connect future generations to that moment.

His mission has also honoured prominent personalities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, veteran actor Dharmendra, and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Today, many of those saplings have grown into thriving trees, creating a lasting environmental legacy.
