Heavy rain inundates T.B. Road, Sannathi Street and the Tiruchendur bus stand area, with sewage-mixed water raising infection fears.
Tiruchendur (Tamil Nadu): Heavy rain in the early hours of Thursday caused waterlogging on major roads in Tiruchendur in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district, leaving pilgrims and residents struggling to move through stagnant water mixed with sewage.
The town received widespread rainfall as the Northeast monsoon intensified across Tamil Nadu. Rain lashed Tiruchendur and surrounding areas between 4 am and 4.30 am, followed by another spell of heavy rain between 6 am and 6.30 am.
Several key stretches, including T.B. Road, Sannathi Street, the bus stand area and the vicinity of Sivan Temple, were inundated.
The waterlogging has caused particular concern among pilgrims visiting the Tiruchendur temple. Those walking to the shrine are being forced to wade through stagnant rainwater mixed with sewage, raising fears of waterborne infections and other health risks.
Local residents and pilgrims have urged the Tiruchendur Municipality to take immediate steps to drain the accumulated water and prevent the spread of diseases.
The situation has also highlighted concerns over drainage and sanitation in the temple town during the ongoing Northeast monsoon.
