Saharanpur: Markets in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, are witnessing a festive buzz ahead of Diwali, with traditional wooden handicrafts, decorative items and an expanding range of gift hampers attracting shoppers.
Known for its intricate wood-carving tradition, the city is seeing artisans and traders step up preparations for the festival, offering products across different price ranges to cater to varied customer preferences.
Artisans are busy producing wooden candles, decorative pieces and handmade gifts, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary designs.
Parvinder Singh, managing director of Leo Arts India Private Limited, said preparations for Diwali begin as early as July and August. The company is currently making wooden candles, including wax-filled varieties, along with several other festive gift items.
Its products are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 5,000, catering to different customer segments.
Singh said business was better than last year, attributing the improvement to an expansion in product categories. He also pointed to the growing popularity of wooden platters, which have emerged as a preferred choice among customers.
Gift hampers, premium packaging add to festive appeal
Beyond wooden handicrafts, gift shops across Saharanpur are stocking a wide selection of festive hampers featuring branded sweets, biscuits, juices and dry fruits.
Traders are offering gift boxes from brands such as Haldiram's and Anmol, along with juice packs from Real and Fresca. Dry-fruit trays and specially designed premium boxes are also part of the festive collection.
