Apple officially introduced iPadOS 26 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025. This latest update to the iPad operating system includes a refined Liquid Glass interface, a smarter windowing experience, and enhanced Apple Intelligence features.

With the announcement, Apple has also shared the list of iPad models that will be eligible for the iPadOS 26 upgrade. While most supported devices will benefit from the update, certain features, especially those powered by Apple Intelligence, such as Live Translation, will require newer iPads equipped with either an M-series chip or the A17 Pro chip.

iPad models supporting iPadOS 26

iPad Pro (M4)

iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)

iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)

iPad Air (M3)

iPad Air (M2)

iPad Air (3rd generation and later)

iPad (A16)

iPad (8th generation and later)

iPad mini (A17 Pro)

iPad mini (5th generation and later)

One notable absence from the compatibility list is the iPad (7th generation), which is supported by iPadOS 18. This model will not receive the iPadOS 26 update, marking the end of its major software updates.

To run iPadOS 26, devices must feature at least an A12 chip. The first developer beta of iPadOS 26 is already available. Apple is set to roll out the public beta next month, with the full release scheduled for later this year.
