Apple has only just unveiled its iPhone 18 lineup and first foldable iPhone, but attention is already turning to what could be one of the company's biggest iPhone redesigns yet.

The rumoured iPhone 20 is expected to arrive in 2027 to mark the iPhone's 20th anniversary. Apple has not confirmed the device, its name or any of the reported specifications.

The first iPhone went on sale on June 29, 2007, making 2027 its 20th anniversary year. Apple is expected to stick to its usual September launch window, although the company has not announced a date. Recent reports continue to point to a fall 2027 release.

iPhone 20 design: A major glass makeover

The biggest rumours concern the design. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously reported that Apple's anniversary iPhone could feature a "mostly glass, curved iPhone without any cutouts in the display," along with "curved glass edges all around."

That would represent a major departure from the current iPhone design, with the device potentially resembling a single slab of glass and featuring extremely thin or nearly invisible bezels.

More recent reports continue to point towards a four-sided curved or quad-curved display. Rather than the deep waterfall-style curves seen on some smartphones, Apple is reportedly exploring much subtler "micro-curves" along the edges.

The approach could give the phone a near bezel-free appearance without requiring the display to bend dramatically over the sides.

Will the iPhone 20 have a Dynamic Island?

This remains one of the biggest unknowns.

Earlier reports suggested Apple was targeting an iPhone without visible display cutouts, potentially moving Face ID and the front-facing camera beneath the screen.

However, current rumours are less certain. MacRumors reported that Apple may still face technical challenges with an under-display camera, meaning a smaller Dynamic Island or punch-hole could remain if the technology is not ready.

There is also disagreement over how curved the display will actually be. Leaker Ice Universe has argued that the phone will not use a traditional true curved display, while other reports describe a visual quad-curved effect created through the glass and display structure.

Two Pro-sized models reportedly planned

Apple is also rumoured to be developing two versions of the anniversary iPhone, with display sizes around 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches.

Recent reporting has continued to describe the two models as broadly corresponding to Pro and Pro Max sizes.

The anniversary iPhone could therefore retain familiar screen-size options while introducing a substantially different exterior design.

Could Apple skip the iPhone 19 name?

The name is still uncertain. Apple skipped the iPhone 9 when it introduced the iPhone X in 2017, which marked the device's 10th anniversary. That history has fuelled speculation that Apple could similarly move from the iPhone 18 directly to an iPhone 20 or iPhone XX in 2027.
