Dhaka: A four-member Chinese medical team has arrived in Bangladesh to assist in the treatment of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who remains in a critical condition at a private hospital. The doctors have joined a UK specialist group led by Dr Richard Buell, who arrived earlier to help chart an advanced treatment plan for the 80-year-old BNP chairperson.
The Chinese delegation, consisting of doctors Chi Jiang Fang, Yan Xin, Zhong Yuhui, and Meng Huang Wu, reached Evercare Hospital late on Wednesday and met with the medical board to review possible treatment options, the state-run BSS news agency reported.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir received the team upon arrival and discussed Zia’s care with the specialists, according to bdnews24.com.
This marks the second batch of Chinese doctors to arrive in Dhaka. An advance team of five doctors had reached the city on December 1 to provide preliminary support. The foreign specialists will assess whether Zia can be transferred abroad for further treatment, The Daily Star reported, citing medical board sources.
Zia’s personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, who is also a BNP standing committee member, said experts from Johns Hopkins University in the US and the London Clinic in the UK are being consulted virtually. He told reporters that while Zia is “maintaining the treatment” being administered, her critical condition currently rules out transfer abroad.
The three-time prime minister was admitted to the private hospital on November 23 after developing infections affecting her heart and lungs. Her condition worsened four days later, prompting a move to the coronary care unit. On Sunday night, she was placed on ventilation, BNP Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Aazam Khan confirmed.
Meanwhile, supporters across Bangladesh, including in Dhaka, Jhenaidah, Sunamganj, Bagerhat, Cumilla, Chuadanga and Munshiganj, have held prayer gatherings seeking her recovery.
