Kochi: Police have begun collecting evidence at the residence of actor and MLA M Mukesh, who is facing allegations of sexual assault. The evidence collection took place at Mukesh's home in Marad, Kochi. The police brought the actress who filed the complaint to the location to assist in the investigation.

Mukesh had initially refused to hand over the keys to his house despite prior requests from the investigating team. As a result, the team had left without conducting inspection the other day.

The actress’s complaint involves seven individuals, including Mukesh, Jayasuriya, Maniyanpilla Raju, Edavela Babu, Adv. Chandrasekhar, and two production executives. Women IPS officers Ajitha Beegum and Poonguzhali from the special investigation team visited the actress's residence and took a detailed statement. A confidential statement regarding Mukesh’s case was also recorded before the magistrate.

As the investigation unfolds, protests have intensified calling for Mukesh to resign from his MLA position. However, the CPM has maintained that Mukesh need not step down. The party has stated that while Mukesh will no longer participate in film-related committees, he will continue to serve as an MLA. CPM Secretary MV Govindan confirmed that Mukesh will be excluded from the film policy formulation committee and that no special benefits will be extended to him during the investigation.

Addressing the media after the CPM state secretariat meeting on Saturday, Govindan asserted that Mukesh does not need to resign as MLA despite the sexual assault allegations. He pointed out that Congress and BJP leaders named in cases of violence against women had also not resigned from their positions. Govindan asked that if the MLA resigns on moral ground, then will he be brought back on the same condition if he is proved innocent. Govindan also pointed out that there are 16 MPs and 135 MLAs in the country who are accused of committing offences against women, but have not resigned from their post.
