Thiruvananthapuram: In the case involving allegations that he humiliated the young woman who got filed a rape case against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, Rahul Easwar, who has been arrested, was taken to his residence by police for evidence collection. Police escorted him home to recover his laptop and other electronic evidence, after which he will be produced before the court.

When the police arrived at his family home in Powdikonam the previous day to take him into custody, Rahul had reportedly claimed that the laptop was “in the office”. At the time, police found him recording a video, parts of which have since surfaced. In the clip, Rahul is heard asking where he is being taken and whether he will be able to attend a scheduled channel discussion at 7 pm.

The video also shows Rahul entering his room and hiding the laptop, openly stating so on camera.

"The police have asked for the laptop. Let me hide it now. If I don’t return, I’ll upload this video. They’re only trying to frighten me. I’m not sure whether they’ll arrest me. Let’s see," Rahul says in the video.

Police questioned Rahul for several hours in custody before formally recording his arrest. The earlier video he recorded emerged during this time, revealing that the laptop was indeed at his residence. Subsequently, officers took Rahul back to the house to recover the concealed device.

Rahul Easwar has been arrested under non-bailable sections. He maintains that he has been arrested in a “false case”. Police have registered a case against five individuals, including Rahul Easwar and Sandeep Warrier, for allegedly abusing the young woman on social media.
