Kochi: Passengers travelling on several major train routes in Kerala will face delays and schedule changes on Saturday after the Indian Railways announced temporary regulation of services due to track renovation work at the Kalamassery railway yard.

Railway authorities said the maintenance and renovation work at the yard near Kochi requires operational adjustments for multiple passenger trains running through the section.

Guruvayoor–Thiruvananthapuram Intercity to start one hour late

The Guruvayoor-Thiruvananthapuram Central Intercity Express (16341), which is normally scheduled to depart at 3:25 am, will begin its journey one hour later at 4:25 am.

The train is one of the important daily intercity services connecting central and southern Kerala and is frequently used by office commuters, students and regular passengers travelling between districts.

Thiruvananthapuram–Tiruchirappalli Intercity delayed by 85 minutes

Railways also announced that the Thiruvananthapuram Central-Tiruchirappalli Intercity Express (22628) will depart 85 minutes behind schedule.

The train, originally scheduled to leave at 11:35 am, will now depart at 1:00 pm due to the ongoing yard work and related traffic regulation.

Additional trains to face minor delays

Apart from the two major intercity services, several other trains have also been affected.

The Chennai Egmore-Guruvayoor Express (16127), departing on Friday, is expected to face a delay of around 20 minutes.

Similarly, the Karaikal-Ernakulam Junction Express (16187) will operate with a delay of approximately 10 minutes.

The Ernakulam Junction-Kannur Intercity Express (16305) will also face a 10-minute regulation on Saturday, railway officials said.

Railways advise passengers to check revised timings

Officials said the temporary regulations are part of scheduled infrastructure improvement and track maintenance works aimed at ensuring smoother and safer train operations in the future.

Passengers have been advised to verify revised train timings and platform information before starting their journey, especially those travelling early in the morning or connecting to onward services.

Railway authorities are expected to restore normal operations after completion of the renovation work at the Kalamassery yard section.
