Learn how to apply using Form 6 or Form 6A, deadlines, documents required, and steps for expatriates and new voters in Kerala

The final voter list published under the Special Summary Revision (SSR) may have been released, but if your name is missing, you still have time to get it included. The law allows eligible citizens to apply for inclusion until the last date for filing nominations for the upcoming election. However, since updates to the electoral roll take around 10 days to process, early application is strongly advised.
Even if you have voted in previous elections, if your name does not appear in the latest published roll, you must apply again as a new voter to regain eligibility.

Where and How to Apply
Eligible applicants can submit their requests through:
- The website of the Chief Electoral Officer Kerala
- The national voter services portal of the Election Commission of India (voters.eci.gov.in)
- The ECINET mobile application
- Their local Booth Level Officer (BLO)
Online submission is recommended for quicker processing and safer document handling. Offline applications are not encouraged.
Those who turned 18 on or before January 1, 2026, those who missed registration during SSR, and even 17-year-olds applying in advance can submit applications. Advance applicants will automatically be added upon attaining 18 years of age.
Which Form Should You Use?
- Form 6: For adding your name to the voter list as a new voter.
- Form 6A: Specifically for expatriates (NRIs) who wish to register.
- Form 8: For corrections, change of address, name updates, duplicate voter ID requests, or recording disability status for polling booth assistance.
Expatriates must apply using Form 6A and upload valid documents. A birth certificate or SSLC certificate is sufficient to prove date of birth, while Aadhaar can serve as address proof.
There is no formal hearing process for fresh inclusions, but all required documents must be uploaded correctly to avoid rejection.
Corrections and Transfers
If your details are incorrect in the published list, corrections can still be made using Form 8. This includes spelling errors, address changes, or transferring your vote to a more convenient polling location.
If members of the same household are listed in different booths, they can apply for consolidation by submitting residence proof. However, internal rearrangements within the same booth area will be handled by the Election Commission during the next revision cycle.
Voter ID and Voting Rights
Newly added voters will receive a voter ID card. However, even if the physical card does not reach you before polling day, you can still vote using any other identity document approved by the Commission.
If your name appears in more than one constituency, it must be reported immediately to the BLO. Double voting is a punishable offence. Duplicate entries identified before polling will be marked under the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) list and shared with polling officials and political parties.
With elections approaching, waiting until the last moment could jeopardize your voting rights. Applying now ensures your name is included in the supplementary list and that you can participate in the next Assembly election without complications.
