Thiruvananthapuram: The special intensive revision (SIR) in Kerala has been completed, bringing the total number of voters to 2.69 crore. The updated list, which will be officially published on Saturday, shows a reduction of 7,95,515 voters compared to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

As part of the SIR process, 24.08 lakh individuals were excluded from the draft list published on 23 December, leaving 2,54,42,352 voters. Following hearings, a further 53,229 people were removed. Meanwhile, 15,11,292 names were added to the final list. By comparison, the previous Lok Sabha elections had 2,77,49,159 registered voters.

Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U. Kelkar explained that the reduction of nearly 8 lakh voters was mainly due to the exclusion of deceased individuals, those with duplicate entries, and those who did not submit enumeration forms.

For context, the last local body elections had 2.86 crore voters, approximately 16 lakh fewer than the current figure, while the 2021 assembly elections had 2,74,46,039 voters. The draft list initially excluded 24 lakh individuals, including the deceased, those untraceable, those who had moved, multiple entries, and those who did not return enumeration forms. Subsequently, 15 lakh names, including new voters, were added.

People who do not find their names on the voter list can still apply for inclusion using Form 6.
