Mumbai: The Election Commission of India has modified the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra. Following a request from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, the deadlines for submitting claims and objections have been extended, moving the publication of the final voter list to November 4.

Updated timeline adjustments

According to the order issued on August 19, the revised schedule adjusts key administrative milestones.

  • Polling station reorganisation: The rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling booths, originally set for late July, is slated for completion by August 24.
  • Draft electoral roll: The draft roll publication has been shifted to August 31.
  • Claims and objections period: Electors can submit claims and objections regarding the draft list from August 31 through September 30.
  • Disposal phase: The notice phase alongside the resolution of claims and objections will be conducted from August 31 to October 29.
  • Final roll publication: The final electoral roll will be published on November 4.

Enumeration details

The preliminary stages of the revision, including field visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and the collection of enumeration documents, concluded on August 17. The revision uses October 1 of this year as the qualifying date for eligibility in Maharashtra.

According to data released by state electoral authorities, out of 9.78 crore registered electors in Maharashtra, 7.71 crore (78.85 percent) submitted their filled and signed enumeration forms during the door-to-door drive. The remaining 2.07 crore electors were classified as “Uncollectable EF” after being deemed ineligible for inclusion in the draft electoral roll based on established norms and factual verification.

The Election Commission has instructed all relevant officers to implement the updated schedule, ensure widespread public awareness across media channels and notify political parties in writing regarding the modified timeline.
