Restaurants across Tamil Nadu are struggling to keep their kitchens running amid an ongoing shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), forcing many eateries to temporarily shut down while others revert to traditional cooking methods such as firewood and charcoal.

Small and mid-sized restaurants say the situation has become increasingly difficult, with limited LPG availability and rising gas prices affecting daily operations.

In Thoothukudi, hotel owner Sandanaraj said ,‘’In one day, we use three cylinders. Now we have shifted to firewood and charcoal. This has reduced our income..." 

Restaurant owners in Nagapattinam echoed similar concerns. Eatery owner Mujeebur Rehman said they had no option but to return to older cooking methods to continue serving customers.

According to Nagapattinam eatery owner Mujeebur Rehman, "We have shifted to older methods for cooking food. We request the central government to take measures.''

The shortage has also triggered public anger in some areas. In Sivaganga, residents took to the streets to protest, complaining that the supply of domestic cooking gas has also declined.
