Mumbai: Two people died, and five others were injured when a massive Ganesh idol of 'Bhuleshwaracha Raja' collapsed during an arrival procession in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar area on Saturday night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at approximately 9.51 p.m. on Saturday during the arrival ceremony for the Ganesh idol near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar.
The incident was reported by C P Control, prompting multiple agencies, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, 108 Emergency Ambulance Service, and local BMC ward staff, to deploy to the scene.
According to the BMC, one victim was initially pronounced dead upon arrival at G T Hospital, whilst two injured individuals were receiving treatment.
Officials subsequently confirmed that two people had died and five others sustained injuries during the collapse.
The deceased were identified as Sanket Nevshe, 33, and Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30. Both were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Among the injured are two young girls, aged five and seven. Further details regarding the medical condition of the injured remain awaited.
The incident took place as crowds of devotees gathered for the arrival procession of the Ganesh idol, associated with the area's 'Bhuleshwaracha Raja' Ganpati celebrations.
