Adding a nominee to your EPF account is a mandatory requirement under the EPF Scheme, 1952. It allows your provident fund benefits to be settled efficiently and transferred to your designated beneficiary if something unexpected happens.

Steps to check if you have already added a nominee:

  • Visit the official EPFO Unified Member Portal.
  • Log in using your UAN, password, and captcha.
  • Click on the Manage tab.
  • Select E-Nomination from the drop-down menu.
  • If a nominee has already been registered, the details will appear on the screen.
  • You can also check the status through ‘View’ or ‘Nomination History’ section.
  • If the status shows "Nomination Successful", your nominee details have been successfully recorded.
  • If the status is pending or incomplete, you need to complete the nomination process.

Steps to add a nominee to your EPF account:

  • Log in to the EPFO Unified Member Portal.
  • Go to Manage > E-Nomination.
  • Update your profile details, including address and photograph, if prompted.
  • Under Family Declaration, select:

Yes, if you have a spouse, children, or dependent parents.

No if you are unmarried or do not have eligible family members.

  • Enter nominee details, including:
  1. Aadhaar number
  2. Name
  3. Date of birth
  4. Relationship
  5. Address
  • Upload a passport-sized photograph of the nominee (file size below 100 KB).
  • To add multiple nominees, click Add Row or Add Family Details.
  • After entering all details, click Save Family Details.
  • Complete the process by e-signing the nomination.

Important note:

According to the EPF eNomination document, e-nominations that are only filed as PDF and not e-signed will not be considered for action in the event of the demise of the member. E-nomination becomes complete only when the PDF is e-signed.
