Iran condemns Israeli attacks, vowing severe punishment for the deaths of key commanders and scientists

Iran has issued a fiery condemnation and a promise of "severe punishment" following the Israeli strikes in the early hours of Thursday, which resulted in the deaths of key Iranian commanders and scientists.
In a strongly worded statement, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei accused the Israel of a "satanic, bloodstained" crime that "revealed its malicious nature even more than before by targeting residential areas."
Khamenei's statement confirmed significant casualties, declaring that "several commanders and scientists have been martyred" in the attacks. He added, "God willing, their successors and colleagues will carry on with their duties without delay."
Issuing a direct threat, the statement asserted, "With this crime, the Zionist regime has prepared for itself a bitter, painful fate, which it will definitely see." He continued, "That [Zionist] regime should anticipate a severe punishment. By God’s grace, the powerful arm of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces won’t let them go unpunished."
Israel launched a series of strikes on Iran's capital early Friday, targeting the country's nuclear program in an attack that significantly raises the specter of an all-out war between the two entrenched Middle East rivals. The coordinated strikes appear to be the most substantial assault Iran has faced since its war with Iraq in the 1980s.
Multiple sites across Iran were reportedly hit, including the nation's main nuclear enrichment facility, where eyewitnesses and reports indicated black smoke rising into the air following the attack.
In a potentially devastating blow to Tehran's ruling theocracy and an immediate escalation of the long-simmering conflict, Iranian state television confirmed the death of General Hossein Salami, leader of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. Top military officials and scientists are also believed to be among those killed in the strikes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that his country will pursue its current military actions for as long as necessary to "remove this threat."
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, the Prime Minister declared, "This is a clear and present danger to Israel's very survival.”
