Jerusalem: Israel has continued military operations in southern Lebanon, intensifying strikes against Hezbollah positions as wider regional tensions linked to the Iran conflict raise fears of escalation in the Middle East.

The latest developments come amid growing uncertainty over ceasefire stability and stalled diplomatic efforts involving Iran and the United States.

The Israeli military issued urgent evacuation warnings to residents in several towns in southern Lebanon, instructing them to move away from their homes and stay at least 1,000 metres from targeted areas. Authorities said the operations are being carried out against Hezbollah following what Israel described as violations of a ceasefire agreement. Civilians were warned to avoid locations near suspected militant positions due to ongoing military activity.

The renewed strikes have added to already heightened tensions in the region, where Israel’s confrontation with Hezbollah has been closely linked to broader geopolitical friction involving Iran. The situation has created a complex security environment, with multiple fronts influencing each other and increasing the risk of wider instability.

Alongside developments in Lebanon, diplomatic tensions between the United States and Iran have also intensified. US President Donald Trump recently rejected a new Iranian peace proposal aimed at ending the conflict, stating that he was not satisfied with the terms. Iran had reportedly submitted a detailed framework through mediators, proposing steps including cessation of hostilities and arrangements related to key strategic waterways.

However, the US response has cast doubt on the possibility of an immediate diplomatic breakthrough. The rejection has further complicated efforts to reduce tensions, with both sides signalling continued disagreement over core issues such as security guarantees and regional influence.

The parallel escalation in Lebanon and stalled negotiations with Iran highlight the fragile state of regional stability. With active military operations ongoing and diplomatic channels under strain, concerns are growing that the conflict could expand beyond its current theatres if de-escalation efforts fail.

Observers note that the situation remains highly fluid, with developments on the ground and in negotiations likely to shape the next phase of tensions in the region.
