A residential complex in Kuwait's capital caught fire on Wednesday after what authorities described as a hostile Iranian drone attack, marking a dramatic escalation as Tehran claimed strikes on US military targets across several countries in the region.

Kuwait's official KUNA news agency, citing a fire department spokesman, said the blaze in the Capital Governorate had been brought under control and that there were no casualties.

The residential complex was targeted by a drone launched as part of what Kuwait described as the "nefarious Iranian aggression", according to the report.

The incident came as Iranian forces announced a wider wave of attacks targeting US military positions across the Middle East.

Iranian forces said on Wednesday that they had launched attacks on US military targets in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and other locations in the region.

In a statement, the Iranian army said dozens of attack drones had targeted radar systems and positions of US forces at the Al Dhafra and Al Minhad bases in the United Arab Emirates. It also said positions at Bahrain's Sheikh Isa Air Base had been targeted.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards separately said US forces in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain and Erbil in Iraq's Kurdistan region were also targeted.

The reported drone strike in Kuwait's capital comes amid the expanding scope of Iranian attacks across the region, with multiple countries now named in Tehran's statements on military operations.
