Tehran: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Sunday that its retaliatory missile and drone strikes had killed "hundreds" of American service members across 14 military installations in the Middle East, a narrative that U.S. officials immediately and forcefully dismissed as a fabrication.

In a series of statements carried by Tehran’s state-run media, the IRGC asserted that its "Operation True Promise 4" successfully "smashed" U.S. air defence umbrellas and inflicted mass casualties at bases in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE. The Iranian military command described the strikes as a "crushing" response to the joint U.S.-Israeli offensive that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday.

CENTCOM Denounces "Lies"

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a rare, point-by-point rebuttal on social media, labelling the Iranian claims as "lies" and confirming that all American forces in the region remain fully mission-capable.

"CENTCOM Debunks Iranian Claims: No US Casualties, No Navy Ship Hit," the command stated. "The Iranian regime claims to have killed 50 U.S. service members. LIE. There have been no reported U.S. casualties. The IRGC claims that a U.S. Navy ship was struck by missiles. LIE. No U.S. Navy ship has been struck. The Armada is fully operational."

The U.S. military maintained that despite the "hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks," the damage to American installations has been "minimal" and has not impacted the ongoing "Operation Epic Fury."

Discrepancies in the Information War

The conflicting reports highlight a massive information gap as the region teeters on the edge of total war:

  • Casualty Reports: While the U.S. reports zero military fatalities, local authorities in the Gulf have confirmed at least one civilian death in Abu Dhabi and injuries to several workers at airports in the UAE and Kuwait due to falling debris.
  • Iranian Narrative: The IRGC-linked Fars News Agency continued to broadcast footage it claimed showed "direct hits" on the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, though independent satellite imagery has yet to corroborate the scale of destruction claimed by Tehran.
  • U.S. Readiness: Pentagon officials stated that the "largest regional concentration of American military firepower in a generation" remains engaged in a systematic campaign to "annihilate" Iran's missile and naval capabilities.

The U.N. Security Council convened a tense emergency session late Saturday to address the escalating rhetoric. U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz dismissed the Iranian delegation's protests, stating that the regime, which he accused of "killing tens of thousands of its own people", has no standing to lecture the international community on international law.
