Citing Iran’s economic collapse and US control over the Strait of Hormuz, Trump claimed a strong strategic advantage.

Washington: US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports alleging that Washington is attempting to force Iran back to the negotiating table. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump rejected a report originally broadcast by ABC News, declaring that he "couldn't care less" if Tehran signed a diplomatic agreement, which he characterised as "worthless". The president asserted that the United States currently holds an advantageous strategic position, pointing to severe economic collapse inside Iran and claiming near-total American operational control over the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Military Escalation and Maritime Control
Trump's comments follow a fresh wave of military actions across the region. United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the completion of targeted strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military installations. According to official statements from CENTCOM, the operations targeted air defence systems, radar sites, and maritime mine-laying capabilities following Iranian attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In his statement, Trump questioned when the Iranian population would "rise up and fight" against their government as domestic economic pressures mount.

Economic Impact and Global Reaction
The escalation in rhetoric and military activity has immediately impacted global energy markets. Brent crude prices surged past $96 per barrel following Trump's declaration regarding the strategic waterway. While Iranian state broadcaster IRIB acknowledged missile strikes near southwestern industrial hubs in Ahvaz and Aghajari, military analysts cited by Reuters note that Washington's heightened stance signals a significant shift away from prior diplomatic negotiations.
