New Delhi: India on Wednesday issued a fresh advisory urging its citizens in Iran to leave the war-hit country “expeditiously”.

In a post on X, the Indian embassy in Tehran advised nationals to follow the routes it has provided for a safe exit. The embassy stressed that no attempt should be made to approach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination.

The embassy also shared emergency contact numbers: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102, and +989932179359, along with the email address cons.tehran@mea.gov.in.

The advisory comes just hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire. On Tuesday evening, the embassy had advised Indians in the country to remain in place for 48 hours.

Nationals were urged to stay indoors and avoid military installations, power infrastructure, and the upper floors of multi-storey buildings.

The heightened warnings follow a statement by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly said that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran did not meet his 8 pm Eastern Time (5:30 am Indian time, Wednesday) deadline to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Official figures indicate that around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict escalated following strikes on Iranian targets by Israel and the US on 28 February. Approximately 1,800 have returned to India so far.
