Donald Trump says the US will not attack Iran before November 3, while citing productive talks and continued oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington: US President Donald Trump has ruled out any fresh American military attack on Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, even as he said Washington was engaged in “productive discussions” with Tehran.
Trump made the statement in a post on Truth Social on Thursday, putting a clear electoral deadline on any decision to resume military action against Iran.
“We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd,” Trump said.
The statement comes after Trump had suggested this week that an end to the conflict could be reached around the time of the elections, while leaving open the possibility of renewed US military operations against Iran.
Trump says talks with Iran are continuing
In his post, Trump said the United States was having “productive discussions” with the Islamic Republic of Iran, although he also described Iran as being in a severely weakened economic and military position.
He maintained that the blockade on Iran would remain in place while the discussions continue.
Trump also pointed to the movement of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, saying 22 million barrels had passed through the strategic waterway in a single night. He claimed that none of that oil had originated from or was destined for Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key part of the oil trade and has remained central to Trump's comments on the conflict.
Trump: Iran will not get a nuclear weapon
Despite ruling out an attack before the election, Trump reiterated his position that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon.
“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon!” he said in the same post.
Trump's latest remarks therefore signal that military action is off the table until the November 3 vote, while leaving the broader confrontation with Iran unresolved.
The comments also come as Trump campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of the US midterm elections, with the Iran conflict emerging as an issue closely tied to his administration's military and foreign-policy decisions.
