New Delhi: Eleven Indian crew members were injured after a Panama-flagged commercial vessel was struck by a projectile while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, prompting India to condemn the attack and call for an immediate end to attacks on commercial shipping in the region.

The incident involved MT On Peace, which was carrying 19 crew members, including 17 Indian nationals. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), 12 crew members were injured in the strike, 11 of them Indians.

The MEA said the vessel came under attack off the coast of Oman while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Injured Indian crew evacuated to Oman

Following the incident, the injured sailors were evacuated with assistance from the Omani authorities and taken to Khasab, Oman, where they are receiving medical treatment.

India thanked the Omani authorities for their assistance in evacuating the injured crew and arranging medical care.

India calls for attacks on shipping to stop

Condemning the incident, the MEA said the repeated attacks involving shipping in the region were a matter of "deep concern" for India.

India called for an immediate cessation of such attacks, saying this was necessary to protect peace and stability in the region.

The ministry also said commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure should not be targeted.

According to the MEA, navigation and commercial activity through international waterways must be restored as soon as possible.

The incident has left 11 Indian seafarers injured, while the injured crew members are now receiving treatment in Oman.
