Kannur: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Monday asked how can anyone challenge the financial fraud cases politically. He was referring to the arrest of his Congress counterpart and MP K Sudhakaran, who is the second accused in the fraud case involving fake antique seller Monson Mavunkal.

Responding to the previous statements of Sudhakaran, CPM leader said the Congressman was afraid to distance himself publicly from Monson due to fear of the fraudster revealing their secrets to the investigating agency. Govindan claimed that there was substantial evidence against Sudhakaran regarding his involvement in the fraud dealings.

Sudhakaran’s comment that he would file a defamation case against Govindan and CPM mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' over implicating the KPCC chief in a POCSO case involving Monson would not demoralise him or the party.

There are allegations of fraud against opposition leader VD Satheesan as well, he pointed out. Satheesan is facing a Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau case over his “Punarjani” housing scheme in the Paravur constituency.

“When mediapersons asked me if Sudhakaran should step down as KPCC president, I told them it was up to the Congress. Immediately, Satheesan defended Sudhakaran and said Sudhakaran would not resign. If Sudhakaran had to let go, such a fate would follow him as well, and he knows it. We know it too,” said Govindan.
