Alappuzha, Kerala: In the tragic accident that led to the death of five medical students in Alappuzha, the student who was driving the car has been found responsible for the crash. The police have filed a report in court based on CCTV footage and eyewitness statements, concluding that the student's negligence caused the accident. Meanwhile, the bus driver has been acquitted of any wrongdoing.

The Alappuzha South Police have submitted a report accusing the student of careless driving, which led to the fatal accident. The charges are based on Indian Penal Code Section 106 (formerly IPC 304A), which deals with causing death by negligence. The report highlights the student's lack of caution while driving, which resulted in the crash.

KSRTC bus driver cleared of negligence

Initially, the FIR filed in the case mentioned the bus driver as responsible for the accident. There was outrage over the mention in the FIR that the bus driver had committed a serious offense, despite the release of CCTV footage showing the accident. The case was filed against the student after recording statements from the bus driver and conductor.

The Alappuzha Enforcement RTO has stated that it will not take any action against the student who drove the car, including revoking his driving license. This decision was made considering the mental state of the student – who is currently undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the accident – and his family.
