Alappuzha: The Motor Vehicle Department will issue Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate from October onwards. This was decided as the dispute regarding the pollution test still continues.

Pollution test will be performed at the concerned centres as usual and the remaining procedures will be completed online and certificate issued by the MVD.

The disputes occur as the BS 4 vehicles, which require certificates valid for one year, are granted certificate with only 6-month validity. The vehicles which are not marked as BS 4 in the RC book are granted the certificate with 6-month validity.

All vehicles manufactured after 2017 belong to BS 4 category. They are supposed to get certificate with 1-year validity. but there are BS 4 vehicles manufactured prior to 2017 and is not recorded in the RC book. This results in the disputes.

The MVD said that the customers have to keep a certificate from the dealers stating the vehicle belong to BS 4 category. When it is produced at the time of pollution test, certificate valid for one year will be issued.

The association stated that they are not informed of the level of pollution in two and three wheelers which belong to BS 4 category. Joint Transport Commissioner Rajeev Puthalath informed that these disputes can be resolved when the PUC certificate is issued by the MVD.

BS 4 Vehicle

BS (Bharath Stage) is a system for controlling the pollution from vehicles. BS 4 vehicles have less pollution than BS 3 vehicles.  The vehicles manufactured currently belong  to BS 6 category.
