Thiruvananthapuram's KL-01 series has overtaken Ernakulam's KL-07 for the first time, marking a historic shift in Kerala's vehicle registration rankings.

Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time in Kerala's vehicle registration history, Thiruvananthapuram's KL-01 registration series has moved ahead of Ernakulam's KL-07 series.
For many years, Ernakulam's KL-07 remained the busiest registration series because the district consistently recorded the highest number of new vehicle registrations. However, that has changed after several Sub Regional Transport Offices (Sub RTOs) were opened in Ernakulam. These new offices now handle a large share of vehicle registrations, spreading them across different registration codes instead of only KL-07.

In Thiruvananthapuram, on the other hand, most new vehicles are still registered under the KL-01 series, as Kazhakkoottam is the only nearby Sub RTO, leaving the main RTO to continue handling a large volume of registrations.
As a result, the Thiruvananthapuram RTO has now reached the KL-01 DL series, while the Ernakulam RTO is still issuing registrations under the KL-07 DK series.
In Ernakulam, registration numbers from DK 5901 to DK 8399 are currently being allotted, with the remaining premium numbers in the DK series available through auction.
In Thiruvananthapuram, registration numbers up to KL-01 DL 500 are open for booking.
