Thiruvananthapuram: Candidates who pass the driving test will receive their driving licence immediately. Arrangements are being made to upload the test results instantly on the ‘Sarathi’ software and issue the licence accordingly. The new system will be implemented soon. For this purpose, ₹1.5 crore has been sanctioned to purchase 294 laptops for Motor Vehicles Department officials.

At present, licences are issued only after vehicle inspectors return to their offices from the test grounds. Although driving tests are conducted in the morning, licence issuance often happens only at night. Under the new arrangement, the test result will be uploaded online on the spot. Those who pass will be able to obtain their driving licence online immediately.

Earlier, when licences were printed and issued physically, applicants had to wait for several months. The shift to a digital copy is aimed at eliminating this delay.
