Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government on Friday announced emergency financial assistance for families affected by the recent landslides in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas of Wayanad district.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared that each affected family currently residing in relief camps will receive Rs 10,000 as immediate financial aid.

The state government will also provide support to those who have lost their homes and land in the landslides, assisting them in relocating to new residences. The financial assistance will be extended to all those impacted by the disaster in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas.

An amount of Rs 300 per day will be given to each adult family member who has lost their source of livelihood due to the disaster. This benefit will be available to two persons per family. In cases where the family includes bedridden individuals or those undergoing long-term treatment, the benefit will be extended to three people per family. This assistance will be provided for 30 days.

The District Collector has been directed to submit a report on the possibility of accommodating those currently staying in relief camps in government-owned or other publicly-owned facilities once they relocate. The rent for these accommodations will be fixed and approved upon receipt of the report.
