Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, had visited the landslide-hit Mundakkai and Chooralmala on Friday as well.

Like on Thursday, he was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi. They visited the villages and relief camps in the area and held discussions with officials of the district administration regarding the ongoing rescue mission and relief activities.

The discussion with the officials took place at the Chooralmala forest office. Speaking to reporters after the discussion, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party would construct more than 100 houses for the landslide-affected people of the region.

“I have been here since yesterday. The disaster that struck these people was enormous. We visited the ravaged site and relief camps yesterday and took stock of the situation. Today, we had a meeting with the officials, who provided a detailed picture of the disaster and the ongoing rescue mission,” said Rahul Gandhi.

“We have informed the officials that we will do whatever we can to support the survivors. The Congress party will build 100 houses here, as we are determined to provide assistance to these people,” he said.
