Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is making a persuasive move to pacify the NSS in light of the Puthuppally byelections. It is hinted that the police may back off from further action in the case taken against those who staged the ‘namajapa’ protest in connection with the myth controversy. The government is reportedly examining the legal loopholes.

The police had registered a case against the protestors for unauthorized assembling and attempted rioting. Those involved in the case include NSS Vice President as first accused. In a latest development, the police state that the protestors had no ulterior motives.

The police will reportedly back off from taking action on the grounds that there was no hidden agenda and no violence reported. Consultations in this regard are apparently underway at the helm of the police force. The case is currently before the High Court and the Magistrate Court. Therefore, the case cannot be withdrawn. However, there are indications that the police may back off from pursuing further action.

The NSS had approached the HC over filing of a case against Vice president Sangeeth Kumar in relation to the ‘namajapa’ protest. Police had taken a defensive stance against NSS in court. Reports suggest that police are currently examining the legal aspects of the matter.
