Thiruvananthapuram: Cantonment Police has booked participants of the protest march carried out by the Nair Service Society (NSS) in response to Speaker A.N Shamseer’s myth vs science remark. NSS Vice president-cum-Taluk Union President M Sangeeth Kumar is the first accused in the case.
The police have booked 1,000 ‘identifiable persons’. They have been slapped with IPC sections 143, 147, 149, and 283 along with Kerala Police Act sections 39, 121, and 77B.
As per the FIR, the ‘Nama Japa Yatra’ was conducted in violation of the law prohibiting processions or protests in public places. The police allege that the NSS members gathered illegally near the Palayam Ganapathy Temple and operated mic sets on vehicles without seeking prior permission. The FIR also states that traffic along the road was disrupted.
The police officers claim that it was an unauthorized gathering and should be disbanded. The FIR declares the protest as one organized in violation of the warnings issued by police officers.
