Kottayam: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has expressed its strong protest against the recent statements made by Speaker AN Shamseer. The NSS stated that instead of trivialising the matter, the government should take action and issue a sincere apology, retracting the statement. The NSS has declared that a ‘Faith Preservation day’ will be observed on Wednesday.
NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair provided instructions regarding the same to all the taluk-level union presidents. As per the proposed programme, all NSS workers and devotees should visit the nearest Ganesha temple and make offerings.

G Sukumaran, in response to the controversial statement, had earlier said that Shamseer’s remarks are not appropriate to the position he holds.
“Any behaviour that fosters religious rivalry is unacceptable. In this case, it is not right for him to continue in the post as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. What should be done is that he should retract his statements and apologise to believers for hurting the religious sentiments. Otherwise, the state government is liable to take action against the Speaker,” Sukumaran was quoted as saying.
Shamseer has been accused by the BJP of hurting religious sentiments in his speech on science and myth.
During a programme at a school in Ernakulam on July 21, Shamseer said that the union government is promoting Hindu myths as scientific achievements in the ancient period, in schools.
