New Delhi/Malappuram: The CPM accused independent MLA P. V. Anvar on Monday of using religion to attack the party and the government in Kerala. This comes after the CPM ended its alliance with Anvar due to his rebellion against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
In response to Anvar’s claims that the CPM labelled him a "communalist" for praying five times a day, senior CPM leader A. K. Balan stated that these accusations are completely false. He emphasised that there is no opposition to prayer and mentioned that they expected Anvar to use this "trump card" in his defence.

"He is scratching his head with embers," Balan told reporters in New Delhi. He further alleged that Anvar aims to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Vijayan, who is well-respected by minority communities, as part of the UDF’s agenda.
"There is a conspiracy behind Anvar's allegations. In the last assembly election concerning Malappuram, the voter turnout for the Left was 43 per cent. There was a significant shift of votes from the Muslim community to the Left. The main reason for this is Pinarayi Vijayan's intervention," he said.
Anvar has made various allegations, including gold smuggling charges against Additional Director General of Police M. R. Ajithkumar and the chief minister’s political secretary P. Sasi. In response, Balan noted that investigations into these matters are ongoing. "Two teams are investigating four issues, and their report will be coming soon," Balan said, alleging that Anvar's aim is not for a comprehensive investigation, but something else entirely.
This statement from the CPM followed Anvar's public meeting in his home constituency of Nilambur in the Malappuram district, where he criticised Vijayan and the CPM while calling for a High Court-monitored inquiry into his allegations.
On Monday, Anvar escalated his attacks, claiming that if he decides to act, the Left could lose power in several local bodies in Malappuram, as well as in neighbouring Kozhikode and Palakkad districts. "If the CPM challenges me, I am ready to take it on. There is an attempt to label me as communal," he said.
He also mentioned that a survey is currently underway regarding the potential formation of his own political party. "Let people evaluate the public meeting I organised on Sunday. I said the meeting would be revolutionary, and it was," he claimed.
