New Delhi: The reason for the heavy backlash in Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections is the leakage of base votes of CPM, according to opinions raised at the Central Committee.

It is suggested that the party should undergo a serious examination in this regard. The CPM is expected to go through a process of rectification based on the discussions held at the Central Committee.

The poll defeat in Kerala, where the CPM and the Left had hoped for a great result, gained importance in the discussion on the second day of the Central Committee meeting as well.

It is indicated that members from all over the State have raised the opinion that the anti-government sentiment in the State where the party and the Left Front have been in power for eight years has also been reflected in the leakage of votes.

In 2019 also there has been a leakage in the party's base votes. Even then, the limitation of fighting at the national level with the Congress-led Alternative Front on the front was reflected. The controversies that erupted after the Sabarimala women entry verdict also affected. However, as a result of the corrective actions taken by the party and the government, it was able to come back in a good position in the Assembly elections. Those who participated in the discussion from Kerala pointed out that if the status quo continues, they can come back to power this time too.

It was also felt that the limitation of fighting Congress at the national level cannot be underestimated. They also pointed out that this time there was a significant underflow in the base votes of the party towards the Congress and the BJP. It was also warned at the meeting that there would be danger if the party did not take immediate corrective action. BJP growth should be taken seriously. The Central Committee expressed the opinion that the BJP bagging more than 19 percent votes in the election this time is serious.

There were also comments that once again it was proved that the alliance with the Congress in West Bengal was of no use.

The politburo met in the evening to prepare the general secretary's response to the Central Committee discussions. The Central Committee meeting will end on Sunday afternoon with the reply speech of the general secretary.
