New Delhi: The central leadership of CPM has not accepted the arguments put forward by the Kerala faction of CPM in connection with the setback suffered in the recently held Lok Sabha election.
The argument of the Kerala faction was that the LDF has limitations in a Lok Sabha election in the state as a national alternative was put forward with the Congress at the helm in the fight against the BJP. The Kerala faction justified the drubbing received in the election by saying that this was the reason behind the dismal show in the election, which was dismissed by the central committee.
The Polit Buro report described the performance of the party in Kerala where the party is in power as disappointing. Criticisms were levelled against the Kerala leadership for not implementing the decisions of the central committee. The CC expressed their disagreement with the arguments of the Kerala faction by coming up with a correction that the Kerala CPM had not approached the election from a class-based Marxian perspective.
There are indications that severe criticisms were levelled against the party in Kerala, Tripura and West Bengal regarding the review of the election as it was not analysed in depth. The report presented by party general secretary Sitaram Yechury was unsparing while reviewing the performance of the party in these states, it is said.
The CC meeting started in New Delhi and will be continued on Saturday also.
The report presented by CPM Kerala state secretary MV Govindan pointed out that the minorities of Kerala voted in favour of Congress as there was a national alternative with the Congress at the helm leading the fight against the BJP.
During the discussion, it was said that the party has been going through a serious crisis and this reality should be understood by all. The focus of the discussion mainly hovered around the defeat suffered in Kerala as the party is in power in the state.
The growth of RSS in Kerala should be viewed seriously and it would be difficult for the party to tide over this crisis without understanding the pulse of the common people, leaders participated in the discussions opined. Former ministers of the state Thomas Isaac and Elamaram Kareem, who had contested the LS elections, spoke during the discussions held on the first day of the CC meeting.
