Thiruvananthapuram: Continuing his criticism of the party approach regarding the election defeat suffered in the state, former minister and CPM central committee member Dr TM Thomas Isaac has come up again pointing out that the arrogant behaviour of party leaders and workers distances the people from the party. In a recent Facebook post, Isaac has said that the party’s connect with the people has weakened and the credibility too has gone down in the minds of the people. The fall is organisational, he said.

The post started by saying that the failure of the party to read the changes in the mindset of the voters is quite big. “ At any stage of the campaign the party could not identify the presence of a strong wind against the party. When the total polling percentage fell down to 71% , the party analysis of the situation is that the fall in the voting is because of the failure of BJP and UDF to woo their voters to polling booths, which was proved wrong in the final count. It was found out that so many traditional LDF votes were not polled”, he said.

“The post poll analysis that the party would do well in most of the seats except in five also had gone wrong. High priority should be given to the reasons behind the failure of the party to analyse the pre-poll and post-poll scenario. Either the party can not read the mindset of the people or the people refuse to open up their minds before the party workers. Both situation demands a detailed introspection as it is a deviation from the traditional way. One thing is sure, as the connection between the party and the public has weakened badly. The people can not be blamed for this as the fall is organisational. The credibility of the party has suffered a lot. The arrogant posture of the party leaders and workers has distanced people from them. This arrogance could be seen at all levels of the party. Like Mao said, a communist must move amongst the people as a fish swims in the sea. One should interact with the public with utmost humility”, Isaac said.

Apart from the arrogance, the mismanagement of cooperative sector affairs too have affected the party in the elections as it left a deep impact among the public, he said. “The carelessness in the handling of affairs in cooperative sector has created a huge crisis for the party as the credibility is being questioned. The frauds and scams relating the sector has damaged the image of the party considerably before the public. Besides this, corruption is rampant in LSGD sector also”, he said.

Isaac continued his post saying that whatever he had said in his long post is not complete as there are many more areas where the party should make urgent corrections after detailed discussions at all levels. He also warns the leadership that it is foolish to think that the votes flowed out of LDF to BJP and UDF should not be brought back to LDF.  In 2014 parliament elections LDF could get 40% of the total votes polled. But, in 2019 it had come down to 35%. BJP, which had got only 10.8% in 2014 could increase their share to 15.6% in that election. But in the local body elections in 2020, LDF could bag 42% of the total votes polled. Here, BJP’s vote share had gone down to 12.5%. It shows that, it is possible to win back the votes we had lost in this election, Isaac said.

Isaac had fought in the recently held lok sabha elections from Pathanamthitta constituency where he had tasted defeat against Anto Antony of UDF. Ever since the defeat of LDF in the election, Isaac has been indulging in veiled attacks against the present leadership of the party . It is said that, while mentioning about ‘arrogance’ in his posts, he is targeting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
