Kollam: The District Principal Sessions Court has granted bail to Dr. Sreekutty, who is the second accused in the Mynagappally accident death case. The court will take up the petition seeking bail for the first accused, Muhammad Ajmal, for hearing on Thursday. On September 15, Kunjumol (47) of Panjippullumvilayil was killed in a road accident at Aanurkavu near Mynagappally in the evening when the car driven by Ajmal hit Kunjumol's scooter. At the time of the accident, Dr. Sreekutty was with Ajmal in the car.

The hearing regarding Sreekutty's bail petition was completed on Saturday. The police had produced the case diary in court on that day. The defense argued that the charge of homicide would not stand against her, stating that Sreekutty, who was sitting in the back seat, had not done anything to cause harm to Kunjumol and that it was Ajmal, who drove the car, that moved the vehicle forward when Kunjumol fell on the road.

During the hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail petition and presented a medical report supporting the argument that the accused were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The prosecution contended that the incident should be viewed from two perspectives: first, as a road accident, and second, as an intentional act of moving the car forward, causing Kunjumol's death. They claimed that it was Sreekutty who had urged Ajmal to drive the car forward.

Kunjumol’s advocates, who were permitted to oppose Sreekutty's bail petition, argued that, as a doctor, she should have exited the car after the accident to provide first aid and transport Kunjumol to a hospital. Instead, they claimed, she urged Ajmal to run over Kunjumol and attempted to flee the scene.

Public Prosecutor A. Niyas represented the prosecution, while C. Sajeendra Kumar appeared for Dr. Sreekutty. Earlier, the Sasthamkotta Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had rejected Ajmal's bail petition. Following this rejection, Ajmal filed a petition seeking bail at the District Principal Sessions Court, which will hear the case on Thursday.
