Kochi: Malayalam actor Mammootty has completely bear the medical expenses of Sandhya Biju (41) from Nedumpillikudi, Adimali, who was seriously injured in the Koombanpara landslide. Her ongoing treatment at Rajagiri Hospital, Aluva will be managed under the actor’s Care and Share International Foundation. Sandhya had to undergo amputation of her leg due to severe injuries.

In the accident, Sandhya’s husband Biju lost his life, and her left leg was amputated. Her son had passed away last year due to cancer, and her daughter, who is a nursing student, is her only support. The helpless relatives reached out to Mammootty’s foundation seeking help. Following this, Mammootty personally spoke with the hospital authorities and agreed to bear the full treatment costs.

Sandhya was brought to Rajagiri Hospital on Sunday morning, after being trapped under the debris for nearly three hours. By the time she reached the hospital, about seven hours had passed since the landslide. Her left leg had lost all blood circulation, with multiple fractures and severe damage to muscles and tissues. A major eight-hour surgery was performed to restore blood flow and fix the fractured bones.

However, as toxins from crushed muscles and tissues began affecting her internal organs, doctors had no choice but to amputate her left leg above the knee to save her life. Further plastic surgery and continued treatment are needed for proper functioning of the limb. Although her right leg remains structurally stable, it too requires medical care for the injured muscles.

Despite his busy schedule, Mammootty discussed Sandhya’s condition with Rajagiri Hospital authorities, ensuring that her treatment continues without interruption.
