Idukki: Sandhya, who was injured in the landslide at Koombanpara in Adimali, had her left leg amputated. Doctors decided to amputate after emergency surgery failed to restore blood flow. Sandhya had been trapped for hours in the debris of her collapsed house following the landslide. Her husband, Biju, lost his life in the tragedy.

After receiving first aid at the Adimali Taluk Hospital, Sandhya was shifted to Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva. Both her legs had suffered severe injuries, and blood circulation to one leg had stopped, leading to the emergency amputation.

The landslide occurred around 10 pm on Saturday night at Koombanpara in Adimali. The incident happened in connection with soil cutting for national highway widening works. Cracks had appeared earlier, and soon, a massive chunk of the hill collapsed. Authorities had already evacuated 22 families from the area anticipating danger, which helped reduce the scale of the disaster. Eight houses, including that of the deceased Biju, were completely destroyed.
