Adimali: Sandhya Biju of Nedumbillykudi, who lost her husband and one leg in the landslide disaster in Lakshmiveed Nagar, received only ₹15,000 as government aid. The landslide on October 25, 2025 claimed her husband Biju and destroyed the house she was living in. Sandhya was admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam for 39 days following the disaster, where her leg was amputated.

At the time of the disaster, the government provided ₹15,000, and she has not received any further announced aid. The construction company responsible for the road gave ₹3 lakh, while the Mammootty Foundation also helped during her treatment in Ernakulam. They have assured her that an artificial leg will be provided.

After treatment, Sandhya has been staying at a relative’s house for the past one and a half months. She also has a daughter. Although the District Collector had promised ₹1 lakh during the disaster, she is yet to receive a single rupee. Sandhya’s relatives are now constantly visiting government offices to claim the benefits. Authorities say the delay is because the disaster is considered man-made rather than natural. Sandhya demands that either the government or the construction company take immediate steps to build her a new home.

Nine houses in Lakshmiveed Nagar were completely destroyed during the landslide. Survivors were accommodated for five days in a relief camp at Adimali government school and later advised to move to rental houses. While it was promised that the government would cover the rent, even after three months, no family has received rental support from the government or the national highway construction company. Many are now forced to leave the rental accommodations.
