The anticipatory bail plea of lawyer-husband Samarth Singh has been withdrawn during a hearing in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, marking a major development in the ongoing dowry death case of Twisha Sharma.

The accused, who had been evading authorities for several days, has now expressed willingness to surrender within ten days, his counsel informed the court on Friday.

The matter came up before Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh, where multiple related petitions were also being heard, including pleas seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh. Both the state and Twisha Sharma’s father have moved separate applications challenging the bail relief earlier granted.

During the hearing, Senior Advocate Mrigendra Singh, appearing for Samarth Singh, informed the court that the accused is prepared to surrender before the trial court. However, the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed the request, arguing that an “absconding” accused should surrender before the investigating officer instead of approaching the trial court directly.

Following intense arguments between the legal teams, Samarth Singh eventually withdrew his anticipatory bail plea, shifting the direction of the proceedings in the high-profile dowry death investigation.

What is the dispute over a second post-mortem?

A key issue before the court is the demand for a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma’s body. Her father has sought a fresh examination, citing concerns in the initial findings conducted by AIIMS doctors.

The Solicitor General acknowledged the professionalism of the medical team but stated that a second opinion could be considered if the family believes critical aspects may have been missed.
