Passengers in rural, semi-urban, and remote areas can now book train tickets from their nearest post office

Travel during festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja has become easier for passengers in rural and remote areas, thanks to a new initiative by Indian Railways and India Post.
Under this scheme, passengers can now book train tickets at selected post offices that are integrated with the Passenger Reservation System (PRS). This service is especially aimed at areas where railway stations or reservation counters are not available.

This initiative targets rural, semi-urban, and remote regions where railway stations or reservation counters are unavailable.
Under the scheme, select post offices have been integrated with the railway’s Passenger Reservation System (PRS), enabling staff to book tickets on behalf of passengers. Most of these post offices are located in rural and semi-urban areas.

- Senior citizens and people unfamiliar with technology can book tickets without visiting railway stations or cyber cafés.
- The service reduces pressure on online booking portals, helping prevent server issues during peak travel periods.

Coverage and classes:
- Currently, the service is available at 333 post offices across India.
- Passengers can book tickets for all classes, including General, Sleeper, and AC.
