Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has called for opposition unity against the BJP, signalling a legal and political fight following the recent assembly election results.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday urged all opposition parties to come together and form a joint platform against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both at the central and state levels.
“We’ll fight this battle,” Banerjee said, as she called for unity among political groups opposed to the BJP, including regional parties, Left factions, student organisations, and NGOs.

“A reign of terror has begun. In such a scenario, I urge all opposition parties in Bengal, the student organisations and the NGOs to unite against BJP. A united platform can be created where all political parties that are against BJP should unite. Along with the national parties, I would urge the Leftists and the ultra-Leftists to unite in Bengal as well in Delhi. If any political party wants to speak to me in this regard, I am available to discuss the matter. It needs to be remembered that our first enemy is the BJP,” she said.
Banerjee also indicated that her party is preparing for a legal battle following the election outcome, stating, “Don’t worry. We will fight this battle. Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi have also called me. Along with them, Prashant Bhushan and Menaka Guruswamy are also there with us in this battle. I am a lawyer myself. We have several other leaders like Kalyan Banerjee who will fight this battle. We know how to fight,” she added.
She further alleged irregularities and said she had spoken to several national opposition leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Uddhav Thackeray, Tejashwi Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Hemant Soren, and Arvind Kejriwal.
Banerjee also claimed that certain administrative restrictions were imposed on her, including withdrawal of mobile services linked to her position, and said permissions were selectively granted for cultural events in Kolkata.
Despite the BJP’s electoral success, Banerjee has refused to step down as Chief Minister, alleging irregularities in the counting process and coordination between institutions during the election.
The BJP, meanwhile, dismissed her statements, saying it would focus on governance and development instead of political criticism.
