Cape Town: At least 21 people have been killed in a multi-vehicle crash in South Africa's Western Cape province, authorities said on Monday.

The crash involved two minibus taxis and another vehicle on the N1 highway between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka, around 380 kilometres east of Cape Town, the Road Traffic Management Corporation said.

The collision occurred at around 11.30 pm on Sunday, according to Muneera Allie, spokesperson for the Western Cape Mobility department.

Several other people were seriously injured in the crash, authorities said.

The circumstances leading to the collision are yet to be established, and further details about the victims and injured were not immediately available.
