Gurugram: Five people were killed and one critically injured in a horrific crash after a Mahindra Thar collided with a divider near Exit 9 of National Highway-48 while exiting towards Rajiv Chowk around 4.30 am on Saturday, Gurugram Police said.

The speeding vehicle reportedly lost control before slamming into the central divider with immense force. According to officials, three women and two men died on the spot, while a sixth passenger, a man, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Medanta Hospital in critical condition.

The group had travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work-related reasons. Shocking visuals from the crash site revealed the Thar completely mangled beyond recognition, with debris scattered over a stretch of more than 50 metres.

The victims have since been identified as Pratishtha Mishra from Rae Bareli, Kapil Sharma from Bulandshahr, Aditya Pratap Singh from Agra and Gautam from Sonipat, Haryana, according to a report by India Today.

Police team arrived promptly at the scene, recovered the bodies and launched an investigation. The inquiry is ongoing, with further details awaited.

Increasing instances of speeding accidents pose concern

Authorities highlighted that overspeeding continues to be a major cause of fatal accidents across Gurugram and the wider Delhi-NCR region. Police reiterated the importance of strict adherence to highway speed limits to prevent such devastating incidents.

This latest crash comes amid growing public concern over road safety, following a recent high-profile case in Dhaula Kuan. Earlier this month, a woman was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder after allegedly ramming her BMW into a motorcycle, critically injuring senior Ministry of Finance officer Navjot Singh. Singh later succumbed to his injuries, while his wife sustained serious wounds.
